You know spring is getting close when it's time to head back to Great Falls, Montana for Western Art Week!

This year my exhibition has a new name and new organizers but is in the same location as past decades - Western Heritage Inn. The show is now called Out West Art Show and has a spiffy new logo. We're all very excited to be a part of yet another iteration of this forty-something year old show. All indications are that it will be the best show in many years thanks to a new enthusiastic board, non-profit status and closer cooperation with The Russell Museum.

Exciting for me will be the debut of more than 30 new paintings, many of which are part of my new Squaring the West series begun last summer. Square format can be challenging but it seems to be a natural complement to the rugged strength of the western landscape motif. I found from creating work for several 6 x 6 shows that I really liked square designs and wanted to explore them in larger dimensions. The series has been under wraps until now as more pieces were completed and framed for this show. All sizes from 6 x 6 inches to 24 x 24 will be available for sale in Great Falls. It's extremely gratifying to see the results of these many months hanging on the walls of my exhibit preview. They're going to thrill you too!

I look forward to seeing everyone in Great Falls for Western Art Week. It's always fun to meet new fans and renew old acquaintances and of course, talk about art! Out West Art Show begins with an open-to-the-public gala reception at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 18. Closing day is Saturday the 21st. Except for Wednesday the show opens at 10 a.m. It closes at 10 p.m. every day. You can find me in room 177 by following the interior hallway from the main entrance around to the west side of the hotel on the ground floor. If you come in one of the west entrances where the main parking lots are, I'm easier to find.

By the way, there's a special event you won't want to miss at 2:30 on Saturday in the central courtyard of the hotel. Many artists will have their easels set up bringing a painting to a fine finish. A live auction of the pieces will follow at 3:30. I'll be there working on a mountain scene (Jackson Hole) in early morning light. It would be great to meet you and talk to you while I work. Please look for me!
