Pastorals

Modern farm and ranch scenes harking back to the homesteading days of the old west. The small hay bales of grandfather's day are now almost completely replaced by the big round and rectangular bales. The equipment has changed but the values that tie western families to the land are still the same.

Thanks to the very kind and fabulous artist, Jennifer Hoffman, I discovered South Park. Not the TV show, but the pastoral valley south of Jackson, Wyoming. I was there in springtime when the cottonwoods were just emerging. It happens seemingly overnight. One day in May they are bare sticks and the next day soft yellow-greens glow everywhere you look. Set off against the gray-green sagebrush and misty distant hills, they are the recipe for beauty.
