At the Feet of Angels

What fun to walk into the exhibition room for Pastel Society of Colorado's recent Small Works Exhibition and find a ribbon on one of my paintings, At the Feet of Angels. And not just any ribbon: Best of Show!

I had an inkling that something good might happen if I made the trip from Buffalo, Wyoming, down to Denver for the opening reception. My painting had been used as the invitation image for the show and two of the PSC board members told me I ought to try and come to the opening. I'm glad I took their advice.

My three entries were all hung on the same wall but not quite in a grouping. Immediately as I looked around I realized what a terrific body of work this talented pastel group had created. There were so many pieces that could easily have deserved the same honor and I was very flattered to have been the one awarded. Congratulations to all the other winners, I'm sure it was a difficult show to judge.

My great thanks to pastelist, Mike Beeman, who did judge the show and the organizing committee of PSC for putting on a wonderful event. It was good to see old friends and make a few new ones. I'll have to try and not be such a stranger to the Denver area. It was lucky folks still remembered me.

At the Feet of Angels is a dramatic view in Zion Canyon National Park of southern Utah. The cliff on the right rises to the summit known as Angels Landing which I climbed in 2001. I'm glad I did it then - it looks a lot higher than 1500 feet now! All three paintings are available directly from my studio, framed and ready to hang. You can reach me through the contact page.
