The story behind this painting is that I took my wife, Ann, to Billings, Montana, to catch a plane early in the morning. We spent the night there as we often do since it's a three hour drive. The flight was so early that I was 20 miles down the interstate by the time the sun rose, giving me reason to pull over and fish for my camera among the pile of warm clothes on the passenger seat. A flock of south-bound Canada geese give the painting a nice double-entendre.

Massive cloud formations over the Little Bighorn Battlefield are common in June and July. One can hear the strains of the tune Garryowen lilting through the air as you pass by, imagining the scene in 1876 as this was the camp of Sitting Bull and 5000 of his closest friends and relatives. Today it's cottonwoods and hayfields.

Victor, Idaho sits at the base of Teton Pass on the west side. It's surrounded by mountains but has beautiful wandering streams and hay meadows. I've had the great experience of visiting in winter and seeing the sun rise through the frosted air, rim-lighting the willows and reflecting on the snow. Some of the texturing in the paint surface is the result of my hand-made panels having some brush marks enhancing the artistic effect.
