Spring days without bright sun have a mystical allure. South Park, Wyoming, to me is as beautiful as the more famous parks and you don't have to pay to drive through it! I love the soft greens of spring rising above the sea of gray-green sage and set off by blue distant hills of the southern end of the Teton Range.

In Yellowstone National Park, the Gibbon River flows over a beautiful falls north of Madison Junction. At low water in late summer it isn't so much to see but in June and July it fills the gorge from bank to bank. This contemporary pastel landscape painting depicts such a time. The viewpoint is below where tourists normally get to look at the falls.

This pastel landscape painting of Gibbon Falls in Yellowstone National Park is from an unusual vantage point below the falls. tourists don't get to see it from this angle without a little adventure, frowned upon by the Park Service. Much of the area was touched by the Yellowstone fire of 1988 but is experiencing amazing regrowth. The fallen trees are decaying and providing nourishment to a new generation of lodgepole pine.
